Crack Green Beans

Crack Green Beans

  • Total Time: 50 minutes

Ingredients

  • 5 cans (14.5 ounces each) whole green beans, drained well
  • 12 slices turkey bacon, cooked until crispy and crumbled
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Thoroughly drain the five cans of green beans and spread them out evenly into a 9 by 13 inch baking dish. Ensure the beans are distributed in a relatively flat layer so the sauce can coat everything evenly.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk the ingredients together until the sugar has mostly dissolved and the mixture is smooth and glossy. This glaze is the secret to that addictive flavor that gives the dish its name.
  3. Pour the prepared glaze evenly over the green beans in the baking dish. Use a large spoon or tongs to gently toss the beans so that every single one is covered in the sauce. Once coated, sprinkle the crumbled turkey bacon over the top of the beans. Do not stir the turkey bacon in yet, as keeping it on top helps it stay a bit firmer during the baking process.
  4. Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Halfway through the cooking time, you can gently toss the beans again to redistribute the glaze that settles at the bottom. The dish is finished when the sauce is bubbly and thickened, and the beans have absorbed all those wonderful holiday flavors.
